You don't need a 4x4 but low clearance vehicles definitely won't make it out there. Low water crossing just before the preserve was about 1.5ft deep and 30 yards wide. Bats were in full exit at 7:45 on 9/3 and what a view.
Awesome experience!!! Everyone should go see this, you will not be disappointed. It is quite a drive so be sure to call first to find out the times of emergence, or if the cave is open (they close for bad weather or if the river is up.)
One of the neatest family adventures you'll ever experience. Since the bats are the boss, it's a good idea to call and make sure the gates are open. Even if they are closed, the country vistas make the drive well worth your time.
***you will have to drive across the river, through the water.
Unbelievable experience that included up close 3 million bats (1 albino), a wasp carrying her dead tarantula prize, snakes, owl, horse, cattle, deer and more!
Great place. Very informative. You really get up close and personal. The lady who worked there was very nice, and new her business.
One of the many awesome experiences Mason and the Hill Country has to offer!! Be sure to call first. The rivers can rise quickly and safety is first and foremost.
